8 Tips for starting a blog

1. Pick a really good name

A few words to avoid in your blog name.

  • Global

  • Nomad

  • Adventurous

  • Wander

  • Journey

  • Backpacker

  • Travel/traveler/traveling

  • Vagabond

2. Choosing your domain

Choosing a domain can be challenging, especially when most of your ideas are already taken. If you have no ideas for a domain, then a domain generator might be a good start for you. Once you have an idea of what you want your domain to be, you can either use your website platform or domain.com to register your website domain.

3. Website platform

I started off using GoDaddy and then quickly moved to Wix. With Wix, you can build your site in a very simple, easy to understand way. They even have an artificial intelligence tool that will ask you questions and build a site for you and even your own shop and online store.

Step 1 - Chose to build it yourself or ask Wix to do it for you

Step 2 - Select a template

Step 3 - Pick a plan

4. Pick a theme

Ah, the fun part, picking your theme, colors, fonts, and collecting plugins. Here, we focus on some of the most fundamental web design elements:

Menus - As the central navigation point of your website, the menu lets site visitors search across your pages. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you carefully consider what to include in your menu.

5. Install Google Analytics

Google Analytics is the industry measure for traffic to your blog. How many people visit your site a month, where they are from, where they are coming from, it’s all in there. It’s the standard tracker for website analytics worldwide. You need to set up a Google Analytics account for your blog.

6. Be Social

We live in a digital world where information is being shared online in real-time.

Once you have your name sorted, you’ll want to grab up the social media accounts for them.

  • Facebook Page (not personal profile)

  • Twitter

  • Instagram

  • Snapchat

  • Pinterest

  • Google +

  • YouTube/Vimeo

  • Tumblr

7. Start creating content

There are many aspects of a bloggers' success, however on a basic level, remember that content is king. The type of visual and textual content that gets added to your site and social platforms will define how your viewers interact and ultimately if they purchase your services or products.

8. Have a solid "About Me" page

Let people know who you are and what you are passionate about. The more personal you can be, the easier it is to engage with your viewers. Add a Q&A or even a comment section for people to ask questions.

It's just that simple
