A Guide to Alamogordo, New Mexico

This was a fun little town. Alamogordo is known forits connection with the 1945 Trinity test, which was the first ever explosion of an atomic bomb. With the population of only 31,384, Alamogordo, New Mexico still has a lot to offer. Just 30 mins East of the city is Lincoln Nation Forest (a must-see site) and 15 min southwest is White Sands National Park. The weather was absolutely perfect when I visited, 80s during the day and low 70s at night. The summers in Alamogordo are hot; the winters are short, very cold, and dry; and it is mostly clear year round. The temperature typically varies from 30s to 94s and is rarely below 20s. Leaving April, May, and October the most pleasant times to visit.

If you have time to stop downtown, be sure to check out Roadrunner Emporium. This cute little antique shop has all the knickknacks you need. Don't forget to stop and get a picture with the giant Alamogordo landmark at McGinn's Pistachio Tree Ranch. The nuttiest place in New Mexico, McGinn's has all types of nuts, coffee, and goodies to buy for your road trip.
