Cheap Vacations to take in the US

Who says you have to travel across the globe to have the adventure of a lifetime? If you live in the US, you are near some of the most beautiful sights and national parks in the world. Sometimes all you need is a breath of fresh air without breaking the bank.

It's so easy to get caught up in the motion of day-to-day routine. Whether it's a staycation, road trip, or even just going on a hike, it's important to break out of the routine and let your feet take you wherever they lead you.

Here are the best cheap vacations and budget-friendly ideas in the United States.

Go Camping

Take a look at these camping essentials that have helped my camping experience!

Looking for the perfect camping spot, check out HipCamp!

This app lets you browse for campsites in your vicinity or another state. You can reserve campsites beforehand and gather more information about the location you plan to stay at. I have utilized HipCamp for several bookings and always had a great experience. Additionally, they offer glamping and RV sites for your convenience.

If you're new to camping and unsure where to start, I can help. Check out my post about the best camping gear and my Camping Meal Plan and Packing List.

Take a Road Trip

Some of my best traveling experiences have been on a road trip. Whether it is within your state or across the US, you are bound to have a trip of a lifetime.

I enjoy traveling and going to new places, which is why I love road trips. However, road trips can be overwhelming if you don't prepare and plan ahead. I don't plan every detail of my trips because I like to be spontaneous, but there are a few things that I would definitely plan out in advance.

  • My Destinations (starting point, generally where I want to go, and ending point.)

  • Am I renting a car (if I am taking my personal car, do a safety check -list before leaving)

  • Accommodations (camping, Hostel, Airbnb)

Everything else can be planned on the go or spontaneously! Don't be afraid of leaving your comfort zone and trying something new. Even if it is a solo trip, do it!

Visit a National Park

I started traveling to National Parks in 2020, and so far I have been to six. Some of my favorite trips have been at National parks and I highly recommend adding this to your bucket list. National parks are a great inexpensive travel, and they get you in the great outdoors.

Things to know

Entrance Fee: Each park has a different entrance fee, for non-residents, it is usually between $35 to $55. Check park prices here

If you're planning to camp inside the park, be sure to pay the fee for tent camping and reserve your spot in advance, as park space is limited. Camping in national parks is a favorite of mine as it enhances the experience and is an affordable way to stay.

Plan a Beach Getaway

One of my favorite places to escape is the beach. My goal each year is to plan at least one trip to the beach, even if it is just for the weekend. A few of my favorite beach spots are in South Carolina. Edisto Beach, Isle of Palms, and Hilton Head Island. Not only are the beaches a fun getaway, but the food is to die for if you are a seafood lover.

If you are traveling in Texas, check out Corpus Christi and Port Aransas. I have stayed on the Texas coast several times and recommend a few places.

This adorable beach cottage is perfect for a weekend getaway in Port Aransas. Walking distance from shops, amazing food and the beach of course. Check out this stay below!
