Managing a Blog and Working Full-Time

Balancing everything can be difficult, especially if you have a full-time job, or you're a student. However, blogging can be a great passion project or even a side hustle. Blogging does require a lot of work and dedication, plus it takes time to grow your blog into a business. Even if you have a 9-5 job or classes every day, you can make it possible with discipline and determination.

I started my blog working a 9-5 job and doing classes in the evening time. Having a plan and a schedule that helps manage your time is very important. A question I am asked often is how I work my 9-5 job, do online classes and manage a blog, here's how!

If it's your passion, you'll find time to do it!

Make a Plan

The most important thing is to have a plan — a direction of where you are going. Knowing the direction of where you want to go with your blog will help with your work flow.

Make a Schedule

Sticking to a schedule can be challenging at times, however it is important, and it will keep your postings consistent. Create a schedule that works best for you. Whether it's just a few hours a day before or after work/class.

If you are a visual person like myself, I need everything to be laid out. I use a calendar and note pad that helps me stay on track. All my content and ideas are written down, which helps me brainstorm.

Keep in mind that you don't want to burn yourself out, so give yourself a break when needed.

Manage Time

There is a lot that goes into blogging than just writing, so be sure to block out time and manage your tasks. Whether it's photo editing, social media, blog maintenance, or research, you can at times feel overwhelmed.

Stretch your Content

It might seem like I travel a lot, however I just stretch out my content. For example, I usually have 2-3 different post ideas for each experience. Favorite places, a solo travel guide, a packing guide, your itinerary, etc. This is where brainstorming comes in handy and creating ideas to capture your audience.

Be Positive and Stay Committed

There will always be people that don't want you to succeed and will be negative towards your passions. Staying positive is very important, and it keeps you motivated. Whether, it's a postage note in your car or an encouraging phrase on your mirror, keep yourself motivated!

I, personally, like to do a Monday motivational post to kick off my week with a fresh start. It not only helps keep you positive, but it helps people around you as well.

Never lose sight of your passions and goals.

Take a Break

After a long week of blogging and my full-time job, sometimes it's nice to take a break. Clear your mind, sip some coffee, and regroup with yourself. Some of my best ideas have come in a day or two of me-time.
