Must-Haves for Your Winter Outfit Travel

A few weekends ago, my husband and I traveled to Colorado to explore Breckenridge, Vail, and the slopes! I had been looking forward to this trip and started packing weeks ago. Since I haven't traveled to many cold destinations before, I had to get some new winter gear. The temperature is expected to drop to 3 degrees, with the high only reaching 22 degrees, so I must ensure I have warm outfits. I prefer wearing fleece-lined leggings over denim when it's cold out because they are more comfortable and keep me warm. We planned to hit the slopes in Breckenridge, so I also grabbed some affordable ski gear.

I wanted to avoid spending a lot of money on snow gear that we would only use a few times since we don't travel to cold destinations often. So, I researched the best quality snow gear that is also budget-friendly. We ended up buying most of the items from Amazon, which were of excellent quality.

Based on my trips, I’ve compiled the ultimate packing list of what to pack for a winter vacation.

Winter Trip Packing List:

  • 2 Heavy Coats

  • 1 Down Jacket

  • 3 Sweaters

  • Flannels

  • Fleece Layers

  • Fleece-Lined Leggings

  • Denim + Black Pants

  • Beanies + Scarves

  • Wool Socks

  • Winter Boots

Based on the length of your winter trip, you can add a few more layers, or subtract them!

Shoes

It is crucial to keep your feet warm in snowy weather, especially when it is expected to snow throughout your trip. To prepare for the deep snow, I have packed both tall and short snow boots, as well as my hiking boots. These boots are designed to provide warmth without causing your feet to sweat.

Jackets + Bibs

When it's 2 degrees outside and snowing, it's important to dress in layers. I like to wear fleece layers and a heavy snow jacket that I can easily take off indoors. For going around town, I prefer a lighter coat, but for the slopes, I pack a heavier one. And if you're feeling a bit fancy like me, don't forget to bring a fur coat in your luggage!

Bottoms + Layers

Finding the right thermal layers can be difficult sometimes. I don't want to feel like the Abominable Snowman, but I also don't want to freeze. For me, it's all about the fit, and I've found that Magellan's' base layers are my favorite.

Now, for the slopes, I wanted a little extra fleece, so I found fleece leggings on Amazon. It came in a pack of three, and there were many colors to choose from.

Ski Gear

I picked up some cool gear for this trip and I was excited to use them.

Ski goggles can be pricy, so I snagged these $30 ski goggles on Amazon. They fit perfectly with my glasses and have great padding. They also come in cool colors. I also got two waterproof fanny packs and insulated phone bags.

When I went to Montana two years ago, I borrowed these super cute beanies from a friend and decided to buy some for this trip. The company is called Lonely Ghost, and their beanies are super warm and comfortable.

Accessories

It is essential to have the appropriate socks for colder weather. The last thing you want is for your feet to sweat and then get cold. Over the years, I have collected many warm socks, but I have found that Magellan offers excellent quality. Additionally, I purchased compression socks to wear while flying or around the Airbnb because my feet tend to swell.

As the wind speed will reach 15 mph, I bought some full-face covers for when we go snowboarding. Amazon also has affordable and stylish earmuffs. Since the wind will reach 15 mph, I purchased full face covers and earmuffs for snowboarding on Amazon.

Tops + Layers

Back again with my Magellan base layers that you can never go wrong with! I also love wearing North Face long-sleeved shirts; they are super comfortable.

My travel bag always includes a Harley-Davidson shirt. I have a tradition with my husband to stop at one of their stores wherever we go.
