Stoney-Baynard Ruins

This was quiet a fun adventure!

Prior to my arrival on Hilton Head Isalnd I had researched historical monuments to visit and this was the main one that people said they enjoyed the most. South Carolina is filled with history and if you are in Hilton Head, I would suggest this place to check out! It is located right off the main road, not hard to miss. It does require a little walking and I would suggest not wearing sandles (personal experience lol).

The ruins are surrounded by beautiful old oak trees with spanish moss hanging from the branches. It truly is a beautiful place with a lot of history surrounding it.

About Stoney-Baynard Plantation

Stoney-Baynard Plantation on Hilton Head Island, SC was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. It has also been known as Baynard Ruins and as Braddock's Point Plantation. The historic site is located in between Baynard Park Road and Plantation Drive within present day Sea Pines Plantation, a private gated community on the south end of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The site consists of a series of four ruins. A main house, an overseer’s house, and a slave house are associated with the Stoney-Baynard Plantation, dating from the first decade of the nineteenth century. A fourth structure was associated with the site's occupation by Union pickets after the Battle of Port Royal during the Civil War.
