Visiting Marfa, Texas

Marfa, Texas is the kinda town that if you blink while driving by you might just miss it. Even tho it is very small, it still has a lot to offer. With a community of around 1,800 residents, Marfa is a walkable Texas destination where the pace slows down and you find yourself appreciating the simple things in life. I made my way down IH-90 towards Marfa and there are a few stops you will want to make before getting into town.

Prada Marfa. Prada Marfa is a site-specific, permanent land art project by artists Elmgreen & Dragset constructed in 2005. Modeled after a Prada boutique, the inaccessible interior of the structure includes luxury goods from Prada’s fall collection from that year. The door does not open, ensuring that the sculpture will never function as a place of commerce. Art Production Fund and Ballroom Marfa co-produced the project.

Lobo Ghost Town. The ghost town of Lobo in West Texas is a lesser-known abandoned community named after Mexican wolves that used to roam the area. With a population of only 15 permanent residents, it doesn’t get much more empty or desolate than this.

The Water Stop

The Water Spot. Open every day from 11 am to 3 pm And DINNER! 6pm – 11 pm

The Water Stop is a small restaurant in Marfa, TX that specializes in organic rotisserie chicken- but makes a lot more then that. Fresh juices, delicious salads, homemade breads, and the "best cheeseburgers in Texas"

The Judd Foundation. Judd Foundation maintains and preserves Donald Judd’s permanently installed living and working spaces, libraries, and archives in New York and Marfa, Texas. The Foundation promotes a wider understanding of Judd’s artistic legacy by providing access to these spaces and resources and by developing scholarly and educational programs.

Tough to Get Here. Tougher to Explain. But Once You Get Here, You Get It.
